Dan let his flat out this morning. Dan spent ages sorting out the paperwork, and it took quite a while making sure it was all clean, and doing a full inventory but it’s all worthwhile now. Hopefully his tenant will be happy there and want to stay for a good long time.

Dan’s parents came down to visit for his birthday, and to see the new house. It was certainly a good spur to make sure we’d unpacked and sorted as much as possible – and I don’t think we did too badly in the end. There is still a lot to do, but it’s much more livable now and not just piles of boxes everywhere. Once they arrived we showed them round the house and garden and went out for a pub lunch. Lovely meal, and nice to see Dan’s family too as his brother and his brother’s girlfriend came to visit too.

I wanted to make Dan’s Birthday special, even though we had just moved, so we had a day off sorting and planned to do something together. We both had a day off work so, after a long lie in, we checked the weather – deciding it was too cold for the zoo we headed for the seaside instead! Once at Bournemouth we had fun playing on the Amusements, then a fish & chip lunch before visiting the Oceanarium. All in all a good day, and we’re planning to head out for dinner on a different day when we can enjoy it properly.

Dan & I had found some lovely solid wood furniture for our bedroom at Interios, and decided to treat ourselves to one room of all new furniture. It all had to be made to order though, so we weren’t expecting it until March. Hence being a bit shocked when they called to arrange delivery today! We did manage to get the bedroom cleared of boxes to make room for the furniture, and all the furniture in and unpacked. It looks great, and it’s good to have one room looking nice. Just need to find the front door through all the packaging and get unpacked now.

Dan wasn’t shifting enough stuff to justify the cost of a removal firm, so I hired a van for him, and he persuaded a mate to help. Thankfully we managed to fit all the big stuff in one van load, as it was a half day hire on saturday – the remaining boxes pretty much fitted in our 2 cars for a second load. The last few remaining bits won’t take long to sort out now.

Just after 8am this morning the removal firm turned up to pack and move all my stuff. It certainly made things a lot easier having them do it for me, and being able to move packed boxes straight to the van made packing easier for them. My main issue was reminding myself that I didn’t need to help, I was paying them to do it for me after all!
It took until around 5pm for them to finish unloading everything into the new house and I’ve no idea how long it will take to get it all organised now. At least we’ve got the spare bedroom now to store boxes in while we sort, until the new furniture arrives anyway.

At 12.30 today we signed all the contracts and collected our keys. The house in Avon Green is now ours to live in for the next year. We didn’t quite manage to get everything we wanted in terms of Dan’s business, but we have workarounds and we are allowed cats which means the major points are sorted. Just need to move in now.

With the move now just around the corner I’m going to have to stop fostering for a while. It will be easier on both me and the cats for them to be looked after elsewhere during the move, and I’m planning on taking a break while Dan & I get sorted.
This means Jessie & Timmy have to be returned though. It’s a bit of a shame as they’ve been really settling in. Jessie was always fine with me, but has now accepted Dan as well. We’ve also discovered that she loves chasing a laser light around the room. Timmy has come on in leaps and bounds now, and from hiding behind the sofa constantly he now enjoys the odd bit of fuss and will sit on the sofa with me. Hopefully they’ll be adopted by a good family soon and enjoy a proper home.
