I had a lovely relaxing time spending Christmas with Dan’s family in Caterham. It was my first ever Christmas not with my Mum, but everyone made me feel very welcome and it was certainly a change not having to do so much. Everytime I offered to help I was told it was all under control and offered another drink!

The fosterer I transferred Columbo to took him home with her to her parents for Christmas, and they love him and won’t let him go! It’s great news that he’s found a good home, but I’m really going to miss him. He had so much character I’m sure he’s going to delight his new family.

While we were in Bristol Dan & I had lunch with Dad & Lin, our Christmas catch up as I won’t be back in Bristol til next year now. We exchanged presents and played a few rounds of Uno after dinner. I was in the lead for a while, until Dad & Dan ganged up on me and I went from first to last in one round!

I managed to meet up with my old Bristol Uni mates that I used to work security with for a Christmas meal this year, which was great as it had been over 2 years since I’d seen some of them! With 12 of us, a big meal, Christmas party games and a few drinks it was a fun evening.

Where I’m going away for Christmas I had to say goodbye to Columbo. He was transferred to another fosterer for the festive period who was going to take him with her to her parents, and I’m sure he’ll have a great time with so much company. My house seems very quiet now though without him, I’m really going to miss him as he was such a character.

Having just changed teams I managed to gatecrash the Christmas lunch for my old team too this year. We headed into Southampton for a lovely carvery meal. Unfortunately I was struggling with a nasty flu bug, so didn’t stay out long but it was nice to see everyone again

Dan organised another cake bake, and we ran it simultaneously over 2 rooms to allow both departments to take part. With 12 entries there was a lot of cake to get through and everyone who came along enjoyed picking their favourite. Once all the votes were in I was surprised to see I’d placed 2nd, ahead of Dan who came 3rd. It does mean he’s getting really competitive for the next one though, so that could be interesting

Tonight was one of my events at the clubhouse, as each event needs to have a committee member to own it. While I didn’t have to do much of the work thanks to the club staff, I did go along to enjoy the evening. It was a fun night in the end, 10 wines to taste and a great selection of cheese during the break. Our table didn’t finish each bottle while tasting either so we each took some wine home with us too!

My new team enjoy their socials, and tonight was the regular monthly curry night combined with a retirement do. It’s been a while since I went out for heavy drinking, so starting at 3pm and drinking all afternoon was actually good fun. I managed OK too, still able to enjoy the curry at 8 and make it home safely on the train

Christmas started early this year, with the JTC PMO Christmas social this lunchtime. We headed off to the Bridge in Shawford and I tried Pheasant for my main course. Overall the lunch was lovely but I don’t think I’ll worry about pheasant again, I found it a bit dry.
