Riding Assessment

After the wet summer and not riding very often at all I decided to go back to lessons for the winter. I went for my assessment lesson at a local center, Quob Stables. It was good to be riding again, but as expected I’m very rusty on technique now, back to basic lessons again for a month or two.

Girlie Pottery Nite

One of the girls at work, Carrie, sorted out a girlie nite, so about 10 of us headed off to The Crockery in Eastleigh for a night of pottery painting and pizza. I painted a few Christmas decorations, finishing with a cute little penguin for my tree too. Carrie has a few more ideas up her sleeve, I’m looking forward to a chocolate indulgence evening sometime next year!

Massage Course

I persuaded Dan to go on a Massage for Couples course for our 2nd anniversary. It was an interesting experience, not quite what either of us expected. We did pick up a few basic techniques though so we’ll just need to practice now.

RIP Crighton

Crighton, one of my 2 chinese dwarf hamsters, died tonight. I’m not sure what happened, as she hadn’t appeared ill. Hopefully it was very quick and painless though. She was just over 18 months old, so a reasonable age for a dwarf hamster.

Visiting friends & family

Dan & I headed off to Caterham this weekend. We met up with one of his old school friends, Heather, for lunch on sat in Croydon. Once we got back to Dan’s parents house Dan cooked dinner for the family, and then we went down the pub for a few drinks as it’s his Mum’s birthday soon. On the sunday we popped over to see Dan & Suzy, friends of mine from uni, for lunch. It was a very long drive back unfortunately due to traffic, but it was lovely to see everyone.

BCSWomen 7th Birthday

I headed off to London tonight for the BCSWomen 7 year celebration. As always it was a good night, this time we had 3 short talks – CCTV, Computing in schools and Networking – all interesting and well delivered. This was followed by wine, networking and a huge cake! Always the highlight of the evening

First Aid

It’s been 3 years since I joined the Emergency Team at work – so it was time to renew my First Aid at Work certificate. I only needed to do the 2 day refresher this time, and found a lot of the original course did come back once i got my head in gear – I was definitely very rusty though having (thankfully) not needed to use my training at all in the past 3 years. With luck I won’t need to use them for the next 3 years either.

New role at IBM

I officially started my new role today, although I actually moved desk a few days ago. I’m now a trainee Project Manager in the Java Technology Centre. It’s going to take me quite a while to pick up exactly what I need to do I expect, but I’ve been told I’ll be working on the Java Consumability tools, a set of small tools so a number of mini projects to get experience on. The team all seem great and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in properly.

JTC PMs went to the dogs

I was invited along on the Nov social with my new team – we went to the greyhound races in Portsmouth. We had the restaurant option, so could sit in comfort and watch the races, with a 3 course meal as well. I had a great night, especially as I got lucky and ended up coming home with more money than I went out with! That certainly doesn’t happen very often :o )

Cakes & Sweets!

I’ve spent the day baking as I promised cake for my last team meeting with my old team. I had a few recipes I fancied trying, and I didn’t think my team would mind being guinea pigs :o ) First off was Baileys Truffles, which were much easier to make than I expected, they also taste fantastic – and I pointed them to be only 1pt each which wasn’t as bad as I feared (though the total recipe was 60pts!). Then a WW recipe for Carrot Cake, which I just couldn’t get to cook – it took 1.5hrs in the end, instead of the 35mins in the recipe. It seems OK now though, I just hope it tastes good! Finally I made another WW recipe, for a Chocolate Strawberry Cake, well actually the recipe was for Chocolate Raspberry cake but as I had strawberry jam not raspberry to use up I changed it. That seemed to go well although it sank rather badly in the middle. Thankfully plenty of chopped strawberries hid that nicely. I’ve popped the pics up in my gallery.
