I arranged lunch at the pub as a final social with my current team – Message Broker System Test. We went out for a long lunch at the Bishop on the Bridge in Winchester, and had a good time. I particularly enjoyed my huge chocolate brownie pudding
) The diet is still on hold for a bit longer as you might have guessed!

My next foster cat is Columbo, he’s about 1 year old and long haired. He’s only got 1 eye due to a nasty infection but he seems to be coping well. He’s been in care with the CPL since August but kept in a single room, so I’ve now got him to give him a home life experience before he gets adopted. He doesn’t like to be left alone, so keeping him out of the bedroom at night could be interesting!

Dan & I headed up to Bristol for my nephew’s 1st birthday party. The party was on Sunday lunchtime, so we arrived Sat night to have dinner with Dad & Lin first. A lovely meal, plenty of wine and I even managed to win our game of Uno afterwards
)
The party seemed to go well, especially the giraffe cake Dan had made specially. He’s going to be in even more demand for party cakes now! Archie seemed quite happy with his presents, and enjoyed the sweets from pass the parcel, even if he wasn’t quite old enough to understand the game.

Bingley & Fifi really settled in over the last few weeks, and it was very difficult to see them go. Fifi had remained rather shy, but loved fuss and attention, rolling on her back for her tummy to be rubbed. Bingley had turned into an attention monster once he settled in, climbing all over me if I tried to ignore him. He was very sweet with it though, and loved playing games with Dan too. I’m sure they’ll love having their own home now and will make their new owners very happy.

The Girl Geek Dinner has been a phenomenon in London for the last few years and is now spreading throughout the world. While I had heard of them I’d never had a chance to attend one until now. I headed up to Reading for their very first event, getting together with like minded people at a restaurant in Reading, with fantastic food!
I’m now starting to plan putting on an event in Southampton, continuing to spread GGD over the South. Let me know if you want further details once I get them organised.

Dan suggested I get an old XBox to use as a media centre, so I can duplicate his setup. After a few networking issues it now seems to be all connected up and working lovely (thanks again to Dan). Now I can also watch films and TV through it, and even play the odd game! I’m still deciding which games to go for currently, as it’s been so long since i’ve had any sort of games console.

Since downsizing into a 1 bed house and living on my own I’ve been trying to sort myself out and reduce the stuff I lug from place to place. I found huge piles of stuff I didn’t really need, and sorted it into the bin and stuff to sell. On sun morning I did my final car boot sale of the year, and I’m going to give most of the remainder to charity now – so I finally get my bedroom back! I’ve kept a few bits that are worth trying to sell still but I’m already enjoying having space in my bedroom again.

There’s currently a series of competitions going on between my department and another department at Hursley. Today was the cake bake-off, and I made a few cakes entirely from recipe (rather than packet mix). I was quite impressed with the results, they went down well at work too

Quick note to say thanks to Dan for all the updates to the site. There’s been changes to the theme, the layout, and most recently to pull photos in from Facebook. All keeping it easier to maintain and update.
Thanks

I’ve spent the last few months looking for a Project Management role within IBM, and I’ve just had confirmation that I’ve got a job I applied for last month. I’ll be working as a Project Manager in the Java Centre, starting on 6th November. I’m sure it’ll be very different from the testing role I’m currently in, but I’m looking forward to the change.
