I’ve been considering getting a bike for a while, as cycling to work and back a few times each week would be a great way for me to get regular exercise. Now I live closer to work it’s even more practical. However, with my joints I needed to make sure I would actually be able to use it, and not have to walk it up every hill. Then I heard about electric bikes, so I could get powered assist when needed but still get exercise as well.

I’m an Auntie again! Hayley gave birth to Oscar around 9am this morning. I’m sure Archie will enjoy having a little brother to play with. Dan & I are planning to head up to Bristol in June to meet the new addition to the family, give Hayley a chance to recover and get settled in first.

I headed into London to join Gilli and around 20 other girls to celebrate Gilli’s Hen Do. I started off badly, traffic meant I arrived at Gilli’s about 2 mins before the taxi, so had to get changed in less than 5 mins! Thankfully I wasn’t the only one who got caught in traffic, and we all set off for the evening.
We met at a pub, enjoying the sun shine before we really started the evening, with wine tasting at Vinopolis, where we enjoyed a lovely cocktail made by Gilli and sampled a range of wines. Then we headed off to Las Iguanas for a mexican buffet and more cocktails. Caroline & Susannah has prepared a quiz and told us all to bring a photo to put into a book for Gilli with a message. She was given the book as a ‘prize’ for completing the quiz, though it was interesting trying to complete the book without Gilli noticing.
We finished the evening at Guanabara, a latin club serving brazilian cocktails and a live band when we arrived. Lots of dancing later and we finally made it back to Gilli’s about 3.30am.

Something Dan & I have been planning to do for a while now was to visit Marwell Wildlife (used to be Marwell Zoo). We decided last minute to head over today, with Dan’s friend Tom, hoping it wouldn’t be too busy. We were in luck, and had a good afternoon wandering round and saw most of the animals. I was impressed with a few very strange animals I’d never seen or heard of before.

I don’t like to be without a cat for long, so I collected Tinker today. He’s a 3 year old grey boy and seems to have settled in very quickly. Apparently he has been aggressive in the past so we’re going to see how he settles in and assess his temperament again.

I headed off to Microsoft in Reading again, this time for a Women in Technology event, Building a Confident Brand. I took Dan along with me, and it was certainly a new experience for him, being one of less that 5 men with around 150 women. The evening went well, interesting presentations and discussions and some useful networking afterwards.

Unfortunately Liquorice didn’t settle very well. While he seemed to be fine initially he started using the sofa instead of his litter tray. As our sofa is still very new we decided he’d be better elsewhere where he could be isolated in a smaller area and hopefully settled into a home environment more gently.

Dan & I are now fairly well settled so I’m allowed to start cat fostering again
)
We want to make sure we don’t take on too much to begin with, so we’re starting with Liquorice, an older boy with only 1 eye who’s currently in a single room. It’ll be good for him to have more space, and hopefully a gentle start for us into looking after a cat again.

I’d arranged ages ago to see Le Grand Cirque – Fantazie, and as expected it was a great show, with amazing feats of agility and strength. I particularly enjoyed the displays in the dark, with fluorescent patches on the clothes the only things visible which created some very cool effects.
As it was so close to my Birthday and not long after we’d moved we set up a house party for after the theatre too. Unfortunately we didn’t have many people able to make it in the evening but we had a good afternoon, with a big dinner and huge cake cooked by Dan.
In the evening we played on the Wii, with the new games and the Wii Fit I had for my Birthday (slightly early). It was a fun evening, although we did have rather more food & drink than we needed in the end!

Penelope, my little purple fiesta, has now reached 3 years old and needed her first MOT. Thankfully there were only a few minor issues and she passed.
